The academic of Harlem Renaissance High School, while rigorous, does not frustrate the students. Teachers meet students where they are, and lesson plans are differentiated to ensure success. The Diploma Plus/Portfolio Based Curriculum allows the student as well as the teachers to track progress regularly. Students are assessed both formally and informally, which allows teachers to formulate lesson plans based on assessments. The traditional Academic Departments like Arts, English Math, Science etc complimented by technology based electives that tie them together, making them relevant to the students.
The students at Harlem Renaissance High School are recommitting to their education. Having the structure that is necessary to succeed without rigidity, allows them to explore new perspectives. They are here to learn the necessary skills to excel in any environment, to become productive young men and women. They are here to embark on the path that will lead to success. Some chose to pursue a college education, some go to work, while some invest their time to helping their communities. Whatever their background or history; they start building here at Harlem Renaissance High School.
The success of Harlem Renaissance High School is contingent our ability to create successful partnerships. The relationships we foster produce tangible results. Drop-out prevention, counseling, as well as school-to-life initiatives are just some of the recent measurable outcomes. Because of the links we are able to form in the community, the students have access to necessary resources. This way they are able to transition from high school to college or work environment. Harlem Renaissance High School has in effect, not just formed partnerships, but has created an extended community.
